Robots Learn From Kinect

Robots Learn From Kinect

None

Well, if you’ve been sitting in your bomb shelter waiting on pins and needles for the end of the world, you may want to run out and grab a few extra cans of tuna, as it seems robots are one step closer to becoming sentient, thanks to the Kinect peripheral. An MIT professor recently outfitted a create Robot with a modified Kinect unit and was able to successfully program it so the Robot could “see” and learn about its environment in a 3D space.

And if you thought that was moderately disquieting, we haven’t even gotten to the scary bit yet! Apparently, the robot can also use the eye to read and analyze human gestures. This is supposed to be good as it allows humans to give the robot hand signal-based commands. However, we all know it’s just a matter of time before the robot analyzes your steps and slips a banana peel under you in the hopes you will fly to your death.
