RUMOR: PS Vita Skype Support Confirmed?

RUMOR: PS Vita Skype Support Confirmed?

None

One feature that was notably absent from Sony’s PS Vita reveal at this year’s E3 was Skype support. Microsoft’s recent acquisition of the VoIP company seemed to all but put the last nail in the coffin of Skype on the next iteration of Sony’s handheld. However, there may just be hope yet for Skype on the PlayStation Vita. Last week a Sony event was held in Brazil, and the Skype logo flashed across the screen when the topic of the PlayStation Vita came up.

Of course, this is far from official confirmation, but when reached for comment a PlayStation representative said, “We haven’t announced Skype for Vita, so I can’t confirm either way.” It isn’t a hard confirmation, but certainly not a denial either. If I had to guess, I would say that the capability is there, but the licensing deals are still in negotiation, which means Sony can’t really say anything about the situation without being in breach of contract. Hopefully, we’ll hear more about the Skype feature on the PlayStation Vita as we get closer to the system’s launch.
