RUMOR: PS4 Reveal Hitting Prior To E3

At the big PlayStation 4 event last month, we learned about upcoming console’s hardware specifications, heard details of its social features and initial game line-up, and even saw the new controller. What we didn’t see was the console itself. Speculation had pegged the reveal for an E3 spectacular, given the timing.

However, It now appears that the console may be shown earlier than anticipated. Citing a source “familiar with the company’s marketing strategy,” PCMag says that a reveal should be expected either later this month or in early May.

While gamers may now be spending good deal of energy trying to discover what the hardware itself will look like, it does pay to remember that, in the end, it’s more or less just a box for the collection of parts and devices that make up the PlayStation 4 itself. The controller, as a functional, hands-on piece of the puzzle is a somewhat more important reveal, and probably a bigger risk for Sony in how it departs from our Dual Shock-shaped expectations.
