Rumor Round-Up: Crysis Coming to Home Consoles, Gearbox Working on Halo 4 for Next Xbox, New DS in the Works, and more!

The Rumor Round-Up summarizes and highlights the most important gaming related gossip over the past week. This weekly article, in conjunction with the Week in Review, will keep you plugged in and in-tune.

According to a source close to PSU, Crytek is planning on releasing Crysis for both the 360 and PS3. The game will come bundled with the Warhead expansion. The Xbox 360 version will hit first between Q4 08 and Q1 09. The PS3 version will follow between Q1 and Q2 of 09.

As of now, there is no confirmation as to why the PS3 game will launch later. However, it is rumored that the developers at Crytek are taking their time to take advantage the Cell processor, as Crysis is a graphics-intense title.

According to “a development source” close to CVG, PS3 firmware update 2.5 is rumored to allow for player-created screen capturing. No one is sure as to how this will be implemented, but it could be cool to slap a frame around some sweet screens to deck out and customize your Sony Home. Until Home is up and fully functional, assume simple uploading of the screens to a server for friend-sharing will be the primary focus.

According to the October issue of The Official Xbox Magazine (OXM), “Gearbox is working on Halo 4 as a launch title for the next Xbox.” This, of course, is all conjecture. There is absolutely no confirmation of Halo 4 or the existence of the next Xbox (fleshed out for the public anyway).

According to “several industry sources outside of Nintendo,” the Big N is currently working on an updated Nintendo DS. The new portable console will feature larger, more vibrant screens, and the top screen will also become tactile. Dual touch screens should allow for new development avenues, and the bigger, better screens conceivably could allow for more visceral experiences.

Isaac Clarke, the “hero” character from EA’s upcoming survival horror video game Dead Space, may have more to him than originally thought. In fact, he may be a monster himself. Click HERE to see an eerie screen capture and decide for yourself.

According to “a Best Buy insider,” the new PSP 3000 will also allow for the ability to play games on the PSP using a PS3 controller. This seems a little suspicious, however, as it seems that Sony would have touted this fact now that the PSP 3000 has been officially detailed.

Thanks so much everyone and we will see you next week!
