Blade Arcus from Shining EX. Yes, it’s an incredibly dumb name, but it’s also a pretty cool fighting game. If you haven’t heard of it before, it’s a crossover 2D fighting game that features characters from the classic 2D tactical strategy game Shining Force .
Originally released to arcades, the title is now going to be released for the PS3 and PS4. New characters and modes will be available for the home console release, though what these new features will be is not yet clear.
This is a very powerful release for Sega. With the failure of Sonic Boom and a lack of an appearance at E3, Sega needs to start producing titles that will appeal to mainstream gamers fast. The fighting game scene is very large right now, pulling in record numbers at EVO last weekend. If Sega needs a game that will sell moderately well to an already dedicated fanbase, releasing a fighting game is a good way to go about it.
Unfortunately, Blade Arcus from Shining EX is only slated for a Japanese release for now, but most fighting games eventually get localized in some fashion or another.
