Sonic Turns 20 With Generations Demo

None

If you were in the Los Angeles area during E3, you may have gotten a chance to celebrate Sonic the Hedgehog’s 20th anniversary at the Sonic Boom event. Don’t feel too bad if you missed out. Sonic is still partying, and you’re invited.

Today, June 23, marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the original Sonic the Hedgehog for the SEGA Genesis console. In celebration of this event, a playable demo of Sonic Generations is available to download from the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. This demo allows you to play a modernized version of the classic Green Hill Zone as Classic Sonic. And if you have a 3D TV, you can even play the demo in stereoscopic 3D. You’ll have to act fast, though, since this demo is only available for 20 days.

But that’s not all. Sonic will also be making a triumphant return at this year’s Macy Days Parade, in 60 foot-long balloon form, of course. This is only appropriate, as Sonic was the first video game character to have the honor of floating along the streets of New York in this prestigious event.
