Sony Axes PlayStation Mobile to Focus on Vita

Sony Axes PlayStation Mobile to Focus on Vita

As reported by Android Central on Wednesday, August 6, Sony has announced via its Japanese blog that it’ll be ceasing support for PlayStation Mobile on Android.

As it stands, according to TechRadar, Sony’s decision to axe PlayStation Mobile is so the company can focus on its PlayStation Vita and Vita TV instead.

Furthermore, Sony has stated that PlayStation Certified devices running Android 4.4.2 and below will still be able to access PlayStation Mobile, but Android 4.4.3 devices and above may run into issues while accessing the service’s content and play games through it.

Those switching to Android L will find PlayStation Mobile pretty much useless, as you’ll not be able to access the service at all. What’s more, Sony will also no longer be putting “PlayStation Certified” labels onto any future Android devices.

Sony have provided a chart that outlines PlayStation Mobile’s availability based on certain Android versions, which has been listed below.

  • 4.4.2: PlayStation Mobile supported; able to play content; able to access store; able to re-download content.

  • 4.4.3, 4.4.4: PlayStation Mobile unsupported; there is a possibility that content may not operate normally; it is advised that you should contact support for a particular device manufacturer in order to access PlayStation Mobile; it is advised that you should contact support for a particular device manufacturer in order to re-download content.

  • Android L or later: PlayStation Mobile unsupported; there is a possibility that content may not operate normally; PlayStation Mobile store access unsupported; re-downloading content unsupported.

We’ll bring you more news on Sony’s services should further information reach our ears.
