Sony CEO Boasts 100 Games in Development for PlayStation VR

Sony CEO Boasts 100 Games in Development for PlayStation VR

Anyone who’s spoken to me in the last couple of days knows that I was really disappointed that the Sony CES presentation didn’t offer any mind-blowing reveals or tech demos for PlayStation VR. Sony has remained stoic and unwavering in its silence regarding pricing and any kind of solid release date. In this barren information desert, we have glimpsed an oasis that may yet prove to be only a mirage. Sony CEO Kaz Hirai had some very promising things to say about the future of PlayStation VR during the trade show.

The blessed BBC made a point to ask Hirai about PlayStation VR during the show and extracted this golden, quotable nugget: “We have more than 200 developers signed up for the PlayStation VR program, who are working on probably about 100 or more titles that will play on the PlayStation VR…” See what I mean about a possible mirage? While that’s an incredibly positive statement, it was also a little ambiguous. TehcnoBuffalo’s Joey Davidson was wise to point out that Hirai was careful to say that there were about 100 games that will play on PlayStation VR, which doesn’t necessarily mean that they will be designed from the ground up for PlayStation VR. It’s still good to know that so many developers are dedicated to the platform at such a crucial, early stage, though.
