Sony Puts The PS3’s Price Tag On The Chopping Block

Sony Puts The PS3’s Price Tag On The Chopping Block

None

It’s a good season to be a gamer. The Nintendo 3DS has just dropped to $169 from its launch price of $249, the Wii is available at only $149, and entry level Xbox 360s are only $199. Now, Sony joins the sub-$300 club with a newly announced price-cut on both the 160 GB and 320 GB models of the PlayStation 3 hardware. Dropping to $249 and $299 respectively, these $50 price cuts are effective immediately, and bring the systems into the same price range as their most direct competitor, the Xbox 360.

Though the Xbox 360 never took off in Japan and, in world-wide sales, has been lagging behind the PlayStation 3 in recent months, it has maintained dominance over the PlayStation 3 in both North America and the United Kingdom. However, with this recent price drop, it’s possible that the tables could turn and see a fresh surge of Sony sales in what have been Microsoft-friendly territories.

At the very least, if you don’t have a PS3 by now, this is looking like a good time to get one.
