Sony Says The PS4 Is A Consumer-Focused Machine

During the press conference at E3, PlayStation head Jack Tretton famously announced that the PlayStation 4 wouldn’t block used games. The crowd’s response, as you could imagine, was filled with thunderous applause. Today, he explained Sony’s stance on this policy:

“We’re most concerned about the consumer. And we really appeal to consumers on a worldwide basis,” Jack told Bloomberg TV. “And I think in the United States, we realize there’s a high degree of broadband adoption, but we’re in a lot of countries where people don’t have the ability to connect on a daily basis and we want to appeal to consumers worldwide.”

This quote directly attacks some of the problems with Microsoft’s policies for the Xbox One. It may not be a hassle for some to connect once a day to the Xbox One servers, but others may not even have that option due to poor infrastructure.

Tretton also elaborated on Sony’s  “The other thing as it relates to the ownership of the game, if people pay a lot of money for that, they equate the value with the flexibility they have in that. To do with it as they choose; to give it to their friends, sell it to their friends, trade it in to another retailer; that creates value in the initial purchase they make.”
