While there is no shortage of games with pixelated graphics on Kickstarter, only a few seem to push beyond nostalgic barriers. The Deer God , on the other hand, creates beautiful pixel art and combines it with a 3D background. The result is a Kickstarter campaign that stands out in all the right ways.
In this survival platformer, players take on the role of a hunter who turns into a, well, deer. The hunter will begin life as a fawn and eventually grow into a full stag as he continues to survive. The gorgeous, pixelated depiction of nature is teeming with wildlife; some of them are other predators from whom the hunter must run. Finally, there are plenty of other deer with whom the hunter can interact. There’s no ultimate goal per say, but Crescent Moon Games have provided hints at what players can do to experience the most out of The Deer God .
The Deer God looks like it will stand out based on its premise and aesthetics. The campaign just started, so it only has $526 of its $26,000 goal; however, I’m willing to bet this will increase dramatically. If the campaign is successful, The Deer God should release January 2015 on PC, Mac and Linux.
