The Great Detective Pikachu Investigates Japan Next Week

The Great Detective Pikachu Investigates Japan Next Week

Something big is happening in Japan next week. Here’s what we know so far: Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara appeared on NHK’s “The Professional” back in 2013 where he teased development of what we now know as Pokken Tournament , and he also spoke about a new 3D Pokemon game that partners the player with Pikachu to to tackle crime. Motion capture and facial recognition was being used to create a convincing, talking Pikachu and a trademark for “ Great Detective Pikachu” was filed.

Next week (February 3 in Japan), a new game called Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Duo is being released for the 3DS. By the power of inductive reasoning I have concluded that these two games are indeed one and the same! In Detective Pikachu you’ll take part in a great mystery as a dashing, talking Pikachu. I have no idea how I feel about his Japanese voice, but I have to admit that if this comes west I hope they keep Pikachu’s voice strange and hilarious. Check out the Japanese reveal trailer below:
