The Guardian’s Violent Video Game Chart Is A Bit Silly

The Guardian’s Violent Video Game Chart Is A Bit Silly

Hitman: Absolution, Halo 4, Diablo III, Dishonored, and Call of Duty: Black Ops II contain a good deal of violence. But, apparently, Mario Kart 7, Mario Party 9, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf also contain violence.

At least that’s what The Guardian thinks.

Apparently, their “research” merely consisted of taking the top 50 best selling games from 2012 and looking at their ESRB labels, but anyone who’s familiar with gaming knows that those labels don’t tell the whole story.  Sometimes the label warns parents about blood, intense violence, and adult content. Other times, it’s for comic mischief and cartoon violence. However, The Guardian didn’t make this distinction.

The article’s video, which features some very serious music and an equally serious voice over, if somewhat ironically coupled with footage of Wii Sports.

I wish I was kidding.

The video also mentions that games like “The Elder Scrolls” feature violence against aliens, which probably comes as a surprise to anyone who’s played Skyrim.

Apparently The Guardian doesn’t have a single gamer on staff.
