THQ To Sell Off Devil’s Third?

THQ To Sell Off Devil’s Third?

None

According to THQ president and CEO Brian Farrell, Devil’s Third no longer fits THQ’s “profitability profile.” This bomb was dropped in a recently financial briefing call with THQ’s investors, where Farrell said that THQ is “currently in discussions with third parties regarding the future of this title.”

Farrell attributes this to Valhalla, the studio in charge of the game’s development, going out of business. As a result, THQ has to aid the development team in creating a new engine for the game, which cost the company a considerable amount of time and money, money that Farrell isn’t sure they can make up with the game’s sales.

Farrell has said that THQ has enjoyed working with Tomonobu Itagaki, the ex-head of Team Ninja, on the project, but the game simply doesn’t share the same profitability prospects as other games set to come out in THQ’s near future.

He did say that he is going to explore other opportunities with Itagaki, and that he wants to make sure the game comes to market, even if it isn’t published under the THQ brand. Of course, this means that the studio is most likely looking to sell off the IP. The question is, who will buy it?
