Itagaki Defends Devils Third By Putting Down Nintendo’s Controller

Tomonobu Itagaki has come out in defense of his game, Devil’s Third, after reports that Nintendo would not support publishing it in the U.S. He pointed out that the Wii U Gamepad simply isn’t the right sort of controller for the game.

“I never wanna discount standard tab-controller,” he said, “But Devil’s Third is a super speedy game. So [GamePad] has the following disadvantages: Four face buttons are positioned [to be overcrowded], so you easily press the wrong button. In that case, you will die.

“Distance of two analog sticks are too far apart, so it’s quite difficult for you to feel/grasp the battlefield. Devil’s Third is a game you play a long time, the standard [GamePad] is too heavy for such use.”

Instead, Itagaki recommends using the pro controller with ​Devil’s Third , along with a USB keyboard. That’s quite a bit of gear, especially when the Wii U which isn’t known for its online capabilities.
