Announced three years ago as the first project from Tomonobu Itagaki’s new Valhalla Game Studios, Devil’s Third was originally slated to be published by THQ in a rare partnership between a Japanese developer and a Western publisher. That fell through, and THQ is no more, but it was confirmed recently that the game is still in production, even though it currently lacks a publisher.
Itagaki has now revealed, in an interview with Weekly Famitsu, that he’s in talks with one or more publishers regarding the beset-upon third-person shooter, while his team takes the extra time to “expand” and “deepen” the gameplay.
When questioned about Valhalla’s effective radio silence, Itagaki compares his studio to a “tactical nuclear submarine” that is “waiting for the right time to fire [its] missiles.” He has further indicated that E3 will not be the right time for his studio to deliver its payload. Maybe next year.
