Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will run at 60fps on PS4, Allegedly Less on Xbox One

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will run at 60fps on PS4, Allegedly Less on Xbox One

During a recent GamesRader livestream (via Video Gamer ), it was confirmed by Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition’s executive producer Scot Amos that the next-gen re-release of 2013’s Tomb Raider will run at 1080p and at 60 frames per second on Sony’s PlayStation 4. It is still believed that the Xbox One version of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will only run at 30 frames per second, though Amos allegedly didn’t actually comment on how Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will perform on Microsoft’s next-gen console.

“Looking here, this is the PS4 version running at 60FPS, again at 1080p,” Amos said during the livestream. “That’s awesome for that to be able to showcase because when you get your hands on it you can feel it.”

However, according to a report by Rocket Chainsaw , it is claimed that the Xbox One version of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is capable of running at 45 frames per second, but will mostly run at 30 frames per second for the majority of the game. The Xbox One version will still display in 1080p though.

“The Xbox One build can technically reach around 45 fps, though this performance is generally only achieved during the most empty, simplest environments. For most of your play, and during action scenes, the Xbox One build will sit on around 30 fps.”

The PlayStation 4 version, on the other hand, will attempt to hit 60 frames per second most of the time, according to the report. It does allegedly dip below 60 frames in certain scenarios, though, but otherwise keeps a steady framerate.

So, on average, both displaying at 1080p, the PlayStation 4 version of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will run at 60 frames per second, whilst the Xbox One version will run at 30 frames a second–again, according to the report.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition drops onto shelves next week on January 31. Until you can experience and verify it for yourself, I would suggest you take Rocket Chainsaw’s report with a grain of salt.
