Toon Link Confirmed for Super Smash Bros. U

Toon Link Confirmed for Super Smash Bros. U

Nintendo just confirmed its next Super Smash Bros. combatant with the reveal of Toon Link on the official Smash Bros. website. Toon Link is Link as he is portrayed in the Wind Waker universe. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Toon Link played much like Melee’s incarnation of Young Link, in that he had the same moveset as traditional Link, with varying move properties, most notably a multi-hitting spin slash, more powerful bombs, and an easier to control boomerang.

The screenshots shown so far appear to depict Toon Link with the same moves, confirming his forward-A slash, bombs, arrows, and spin slash. The only things that seem different are two screenshots that depict him wielding the Wind Waker baton. In Brawl, this was only a taunt, but one screenshot shows Toon Link in what appears to be mid-air with a gust of wind below him. Unfortunately, much of Toon Link’s lower half is cut off in this picture, so it is unclear whether or not this is a new move.  “Clone characters” have always been something of a sore spot for Smash Bros. fans, so it’s peculiar that Nintendo would reveal one so early in its marketing for the game. Moreover, it’s peculiar that his moveset hasn’t changed much, considering he could have a whole host of new moves based off of Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass.
