Sonic: The Hedgehog Confirmed for Super Smash Bros.

Sonic: The Hedgehog Confirmed for Super Smash Bros.

An update to the official Smash Bros. webpage today revealed the latest confirmed member of the roster, Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic has been in Smash games before, specifically Smash Bros. Brawl, and he is returning in this latest installment to face off against other iconic characters like Mega Man and Mario. The trailer and screenshots show Sonic with moves very similar to his Brawl incarnation. He still has his divekick, bumper jump, homing attack, spin dash, and the like. He also appears to have a quick dodge that is somewhat unlike most quick dodges in the game. He appears to flip over the opponent as they rush toward him. Otherwise, he is likely to have the same techniques we have seen from him before.

Sonic is the fifth character to be revealed since the game’s debut at E3 this year. Strangely enough, none of the characters that have been revealed since then have been new. The only new characters we have seen so far are Mega Man , the Animal Crossing Villager, and the Wii Fit Trainer. Then again, the inclusion of Sonic: The Hedgehog does show that Nintendo is being more open with third-party entrants, so we may have some surprises left in store for us yet.
