Ubisoft Generously Applies Game-Breaking Patch to Rainbow Six

“2.0” is something that fans of Rainbow Six Siege have been waiting to see since the game was released in December. Matchmaking difficulties and minor glitches have made this fantastic game really hard to play for long stretches of time. Shortly after releasing its first free DLC, “Operation Black Ice,” Ubisoft rolled out a big patch for Siege that has ended up doing more harm than good. The list of reported bugs and glitches is extensive, and you can find them all listed here , but there are a couple of main issues that stand out.

Something is going on with the player models that is causing them to appear on screen as stationary, floating bodies with arms extended to each side. Besides looking totally creepy, it’s impossible to decipher player-orientation, as the shadow body will remain standing in a T-formation even when the player is actually crouching or laying prone. Kills aren’t guaranteed anyway, since hit detection has been really screwy for a lot of players after the patch. Knife swipes (which should be an instant kill) aren’t registering, and there are reports of emptying entire magazines into enemies who don’t die.

It seriously blows my mind. What the f&#k are they doing over there? I understand they’re only human but for crying out loud, do they have interns or grad students doing the programming? We’re seeing the typical Ubisoft response: “We’re aware of the issue and we’re looking into it.” We’ve been hearing that since the first of December. I think an apology is in order, and however Ubisoft needs to tinker with this quarter’s budget to fix this game it needs to get done. Quickly.
