UPDATE: Reckoning Gets A BioWare Tie-In

None

Yesterday, we announced that Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning—the fantasy epic from the minds of Ken Rolston, R.A. Salvatore and Todd McFarlane—would be getting a demo next Tuesday on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. Official word has since come down from 38 Studios, the developer behind Reckoning, that the demo will also be coming to the PC and PlayStation 3.

That announcement pales in comparison to the next part: 38 Studios and BioWare are teaming up for a Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning/Mass Effect 3 cross-promotion. Those who play the Reckoning demo will receive two unlocks for Mass Effect 3—the Reckoner Knight Armor, which is designed to boost both melee and ranged damage, and the Chakram Launcher, which fires explosive discs at Shepard’s enemies.

Conversely, those who play through the Mass Effect 3 demo will receive two unlocks for Reckoning—the N7 Armor, modeled after Commander Shepard’s iconic duds, and a pair of Omniblade daggers, made out to look like holographic blade new to Shepard’s Omnitool in Mass Effect 3.

This isn’t the first time BioWare has cross-promoted a pair of games with related unlocks in each. That, however, was between two BioWare properties—Mass Effect and Dragon Age—while this is an unprecedented team-up with another developer entirely. As they’re both EA published titles, though, it’s definitely within the realm of reason.
