Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team Dev Team Slain

None

Last month, when THQ closed Homefront developer Kaos Studios, it appears the publisher also gave UK development team Digital Warrington its 30-day notice, as per UK law for corporation closures. Today, the developer’s final title—downloadable game Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team—makes its way onto the Xbox Live Marketplace, even as THQ declares that most of the developer’s team members are redundant “effective immediately.” The ten remaining members of the team have been tapped to finish the PlayStation Network port of Kill Team.

Three new groups have sprung from Digital Warrington’s defunct awning: a concept group called Alien Apple Studios and two development studios, one of them called D3T and the other as yet unnamed. None of these three start-ups, however, will involve Digital Warrington founder Colin Bell.

Bell plans to take some time away from the games industry. His parting notes to THQ are not embittered, but proud and hopeful: “THQ have done all they can through the consultancy period and have treated staff with respect.”

He went on to say, “I’ve definitely been proud to have been involved in setting up and running the studio and have no regrets. I’ve also been proud to work for THQ. We’ve provided around 400 man years of employment over the last eight years and that is no mean feat.

“However it’s game sales that count! Juiced franchise has sold over 5m and I’m hoping that Warhammer 40k: Kill Team, which is launched today, will be a great parting product for the studio.”
