What Is the Sega Spectrum?

What Is the Sega Spectrum?

A photo containing a logo for something called the Sega Spectrum has been circulating online recently. Originally posted by NeoGAF user Shaowebb, the logo comes with a motto that translates to “a new world of entertainment” and a date pegging its reveal for June 12 th , right in the middle of E3.

Unfortunately, that is all we know for now, but fans have been more than willing to contribute their own theories. The most believable theories assume the Spectrum will be either some sort of digital service or a new arcade platform. Sega is still a prominent arcade developer, especially in Japan where arcades are thriving. Of course, some are hoping that Sega is about to re-enter the console market with a new handheld or game console. Considering Sega’s current status in the gaming world, the hype surrounding the Xbox One and PS4, the downswing of the Wii U, and the overcrowded market environment we are currently in, it’s probably safe to say that this isn’t the case.

What do you think Sega is gearing up to show us? Will we actually see new hardware or is this just some sort of social campaign? We will know more about the Sega Spectrum at E3.
