Will Assassin’s Creed Film Stay Loyal to Games?

Will Assassin’s Creed Film Stay Loyal to Games?

While I don’t need to go into a long diatribe about the horrible track record Hollywood has in transitioning video games to the silver screen, Assassin’s Creed looks to be on the right track in bucking that tradition.

However, will fans find a film that completely butchers its source material? Star Michael Fassbender says no! In a recent interview, the actor (whose career has blown up due to his work on projects like X-Men and Prometheus ) states they intend to pay tribute to the long-standing narrative that many have grown to love over the last decade or so. “You know, we absolutely want to respect the game. There’s so much cool stuff in the game that we’re actually spoiled for choice in terms of what we can use and what we can’t, but we also want to bring new elements to it….I don’t really play that many video games, but when I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they started to explain this whole world…I just thought, ‘This is so rich,’…I’m really excited about it, and we’re working very hard to make sure that we’ve got the best and most exciting, original package.” He says.

While Fassbender is candid about his lack of knowledge regarding the video gaming world, he is familiar with their choice of director. After working with him on Macbeth , here is what Fassbender had to say about director Justin Kurzel: “I just think that there’s one thing Justin should be doing, and that’s directing…He’s just fantastic in terms of his vision. Adam, the DP that he works with, is amazing. They’ve got a great shorthand, that’s essential. He’s fantastic with actors and each department. He’s a real heavyweight.”

The Assassin’s Creed movie is set to hit theaters next summer.
