X-Men: Days of Future Past Sets Holiday Record

X-Men: Days of Future Past Sets Holiday Record

‘Future Past has become one of the most anticipated films in series history. Coming off a huge holiday weekend opening, we now find it has achieved success that will put it in the record books.

Opening in almost 4,000 theaters around the country, the movie has now inched its way into the list of top five highest grossing films of Memorial Day ever! Latest reports have it grossing north of $111 million since its Midnight release on Thursday. The film stars both the returning cast of 2011’s First Class, as well as cameos from many of the original trilogy (with Hugh Jackman bridging the gap between the two as Wolverine). After the Sentinels look to threaten everything they’ve ever worked for, Wolverine must travel back in time from his dystopian future in hopes of stopping the war before it begins.

Speaking of war, with ‘ Future Past now behind us, many are looking to the next big film in the franchise. Entitled Apocalypse , director Brian Singer is already in the works on bringing one of the comic series’ most iconic villains to life. While the new story will reportedly take place in the ‘80s (and focus primarily on the First Class pool), producer/writer Simon Kinberg recently stated that it will “…certainly have some of the original cast involved, too.”

Even though X-Men: Days of Future Past may not have been the most successful entry into the series, it might come as a surprise to learn exactly which ones out-grossed it during their openings. Check back tomorrow as I reveal more.
