XSeed Comes To Steam, Brings Oath

None

XSeed is the publisher you go to if you want non-Square Enix Japanese RPGs. They’re the purveyors of all things Falcom in the West (in addition to many other developers’ games), with the developer’s Ys series, in particular, drawing critical acclaim. Their releases, in North America, have been exclusive to Sony consoles thus far, with Ys: The Ark of Napishtim, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, and Ys Seven all seeing release only on the PS2 and/or PSP (in addition to PSP releases of the Legend of Heroes series). Most of these games, however, began life on the PC in Japan.

It appears that, as of now, XSeed is expanding itself to that most traditional of gaming platforms. The company’s name has shown up in the Steam registry as a partner. Further, the registry shows that Ys: Oath in Felghana is coming to the service. A remake of the third entry in the Ys series, Oath in Felghana uses superbly animated sprite models against polygonal backdrops and bosses in a fast-paced and challenging (though fair) action-RPG framework. It’s also notable for its North American PSP version making use of a fan translation purchased and voiced by XSeed.
