YouTube Relaunching Livestreaming Service To Compete With Twitch

Yesterday morning, The Daily Dot reported on a story suggesting that YouTube is preparing to relaunch its livestreaming service to compete directly with Twitch. The popular online video service tried to acquire Twitch last year for $1 billion dollars, but failed to do so. As a result of this, they are now refocusing their efforts on covering more e-sports and live gaming events.

Twitch has already has a ton of success in the gaming scene and will continue to dominate the market for the foreseeable future. It will be interesting to see if YouTube is able to actually compete with Twitch in this space. The company is expected to announce its relaunch plans this June during E3 2015.

Ever since YouTube changed its policies on coverage content related to video games, many video-based journalists and critics alike have seen their incomes drop. Hopefully by being more competitive with Twitch, YouTube can reverse some of these practices.

Are any of you surprised that YouTube now wants to compete with Twitch? Please feel free to let us know your thoughts on the matter and more in the comments section below.
