When ZombiU was announced, critics couldn’t stop praising it. Unfortunately for the developers, the excitement didn’t last through the game’s launch. Several media outlets were extremely critical of ZombiU and the developers seem to think it was somewhat excessive.
ZombiU producer Guillaume Brunier spoke with Nintendo Life about these early reviews saying “We were really disappointed with the early US reviews. We are aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the experience we created but we did not expect so harsh a feedback. However as more and more journalists and gamers played the game, these opinions proved to be a minority. So right now we’re rather pleased with the overall reception of the game.”
This is not your run of the mill action game, it’s a game where you will die, a lot, and considering each survivor you control only has one life to live, this can get discouraging. Still, this is exactly why other reviewers gave ZombiU such a favorable review. It may not be the most accessible game on the market, but the developers certainly score points for trying something new.
Plus, for the record, we liked the game . And we’re right about most things.
