A Game of Thrones: Genesis did not make waves in the gaming zeitgeist. A sub-par fantasy RTS that did little to expand upon or even adequately interpret George R. R. Martin’s masterwork book series (and the HBO series based on it), it faded quickly into obscurity upon its release. More interesting, though, has been the development of an RPG in the books’ universe, titled simply Game of Thrones: The Role Playing Game. It follows two original characters, each in their own quest through Martin’s fantasy universe. The potential for a compelling RPG narrative in this world of moral ambiguity is positively titillating, and it appears that we may find out how it pans out sooner rather than later.
