A Massive Browser Game Of Thrones

A Massive Browser Game Of Thrones

None

George R.R. Martin’s fantasy epic, A Song of Ice and Fire , has soared in popularity of late, grasping the pop-culture consciousness with an HBO mini-series that has, thus far, chronicled the events of the series’ first and most famous book: A Game of Thrones. Already, a strategy game based on the franchise has been unleashed on the masses, with a big-budget RPG in the works. There’s a second project under development, though, which has just had the covers thrown off: A Game of Thrones MMO.

Before anyone gets too excited (or up in arms), this is not a planned retail product. It will not be sharing shelf or digital storefront space with The Old Republic or World of Warcraft. The purview of Bigpoint Games, development duties are being spread between them and Artplant, which was behind the Battlestar Galactica browser-MMO.

Yes, A Game of Thrones is getting the browser-MMO treatment, using the same Unity engine that powered Battlestar Galactica. For what it’s worth, though, that was a far more involved project than most browser-based gaming, and the first screenshot of this new MMO indicates that it, too, will take itself quite seriously.

Here’s hoping for the best.
