Bahamut Lagoon is a 1996 tactical RPG developed and published by Square. The game was originally available as a SNES exclusive, before being later released on the Virtual Consoles for both the Wii and Wii U.
Critically, Bahamut Lagoon fared better in the West than it did among Japanese critics. The depth of its gameplay has ensured the game has stood the test of time overall. Across 1996, it became the 17th best-selling game of the year with over 474,000 copies sold.
Bahamut Lagoon Premise

The deep gameplay of Bahamut Lagoon is one of the most praised aspects of the game, and one of the reasons it still holds up to this day. Much of it is a hybrid between two combat styles – 2D grid-based and turn-based. This provides a variety of gameplay, which is further emboldened by the ability to summon dragons to fight alongside you.
You have a squad alongside you during combat, with one squad leader. Each leader provides different buffs to your team, so you must decide how you want your squad to look to ensure you’ve got the best possible chance of victory in battle.
Outside of battle, you can speak to NPCs, interact and trade with them, as well as feed your dragons to increase their power. These sections of the game are limited, with most of Bahamut Lagoon taking place in combat.
Bahamut Lagoon Main Characters

As an RPG, meeting a variety of different characters and interacting with them is an important aspect of Bahamut Lagoon‘s gameplay. We’ve put together a brief guide to the main characters of the bunch:
- Byuu: Byuu is the main protagonist of Bahamut Lagoon and the one who leads the fight against the Grabelos Empire after it invades Kahna.
- Yoyo: Yoyo is the princess of Kahna, and an old friend of Byuu’s. She has the special ability to be able to speak to the Holy Dragons.
- Sendak: Sendak is an older man who has the ability to summon the Holy Dragons themselves.
Bahamut Lagoon Titles in the Series

It’s somewhat of a surprise that Bahamat Lagoon remains a solo endeavor to this day. Deep JRPGs are a huge market nowadays, so it’s understandable that the game has managed to maintain something of a cult following.
Given its strong sales at the time, a sequel to Bahamut Lagoon would’ve even made financial sense for the developer. It isn’t fully clear why Square never embraced the idea of a sequel, but we think we know why. Final Fantasy. To this day, Final Fantasy remains one of the biggest IPs in all of gaming, and during the ’90s Square was focused on it rather heavily, especially post-1996.
With this in mind, it seems that any potential for a full Bahamut Lagoon series was simply collateral damage as a result of Final Fantasy‘s runaway success.

Bahamut Lagoon Cheat Codes

Unfortunately, there are no cheat codes in the base game of Bahamut Lagoon that you can use. This isn’t a huge problem, though. If you’re playing on an emulated version (as most will be) or own an Action Replay cartridge for the SNES version, you can use Action Replay codes instead, and there’s no shortage of those for Bahamut Lagoon.
To enter these, find the cheat section of your chosen emulator, and enter the following codes there.
Bahamut Lagoon Action Replay Cheats
Before we begin with these codes, there’s one thing you need to know. Items have two different types of codes – an Item Code, and a Quantity Code. You must enter both for the code to work, using the correct digits in both for the item you want to use.
For example, the Long Sword uses the digit 01 in Action Replay. Its item code is “7e3ad2 XX“, and its quantity code is “7e3ad3 XX.” If you wanted to spawn a long sword, you would replace the XX in the item code with the digit 01, and the XX in the quantity code with however many you want. To spawn one Long Sword, your full cheat would be “7e3ad2 01 7e3ad3 01.” It’s a pain to get to grips with, but it’s worth it if you want to cheat in Bahamut Lagoon.

Bahamut Lagoon Cheat Code FAQs

Does Bahamut Lagoon Have Achievements?
No. Even the re-released versions of the game on the Wii and Wii U didn’t add any form of achievement system, unfortunately.
Can I Use Bahamut Lagoon Cheats on an Emulator?
Yes! As a matter of fact, we’d encourage it! Finding an Action Replay cartridge for the SNES in this day and age is extremely difficult, whereas an emulator is just a search away. Most emulators support Action Replay cheats by default, so you shouldn’t have any issues here.
How Do I Enter Action Replay Cheats in Bahamut Lagoon?
This will depend on the emulator you’re using. However, as a general rule, you need to find the Cheats section of your emulator, which is usually located in the Settings menu. From here, it should be pretty self-explanatory to enter the cheats in Bahamut Lagoon.
