Ben Affleck Says They Have To “Redefine” The Next Batman

The internet blew up in a swarm of controversy when the news broke of Ben Affleck being cast as Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel. Now, Affleck talks about his version of the Bat as well as the negative feedback he’s received.

The Oscar winner recently told Playboy that the next Batman will have to be very different than the one we’ve recently seen in the Dark Knight trilogy. “I don’t want to give away too much, but the idea for the new Batman is to redefine him in a way that doesn’t compete with the Bale and Chris Nolan Batman but still exists within the Batman canon. It will be an older and wiser version, particularly as he relates to Henry Cavill’s Superman character.” Affleck said.

While he calls being at the mercy of those on the internet a “disadvantage,” he attempts to reassure fans that we won’t have another comic book debacle on our hands (as many remember from the actor’s past). Affleck jokes, “If I thought the result would be another Daredevil , I’d be out there picketing myself. Why would I make the movie if I didn’t think it was going to be good and that I could be good in it?”

The Batman/Superman film has currently been pushed back to 2016. In the meantime, check out my thoughts on the recently leaked plot rumors .
