Bill Gates and the team at Microsoft have made several announcements about the future of the Xbox 360.

In his keynote address at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Gates confirmed that the Xbox 360 will be compatible with HD-DVD. The drive will be offered as an external peripheral.

Peter Moore, Vice President of Worldwide Xbox Marketing, announced that by the end of June there will be fifty Xbox 360 games available in thirty countries. The company expects to have shipped between 4.5 and 5.5 million Xbox 360 units by June as well.

Remarks by Moore and Gates also revealed Street Fighter II and a new Texas-hold-‘em-game will be available via Xbox Live marketplace.
