Budokai HD Collection Confirmed

Budokai HD Collection Confirmed

None

Back in May, rumors flew about an HD Collection of the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai fighting titles, presumed to be slated for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, due to a stray retailer listing. Then, images materialized from the setup of NAMCO Bandai’s booth at the 2012 Japan Expo, including a large poster of a shirtless, Super Saiyan Goku with the Dragon Ball Z Budokai logo emblazoned next to him, “HD Collection” printed beneath it.

Now, NAMCO Bandai has officially confirmed that, yes, there will be an HD Collection of the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai one-on-one fighting games. From the PlayStation 2 era, these were the slightly more traditional side-view fighting games that fell out of favor when the Tenkaichi sub-series took over, with its brand of over-the-shoulder gameplay (offering the illusion of greater freedom).

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 is on the list for the collection, along with the original Budokai. Budokai 2 is notably absent (as are the PSP entries: Shin Budokai and Shin Budokai: Another Road, as well as Infinite World), but Budokai 3 is really the only one anyone’s going to care about. With its extensive roster of fighters, enjoyable Dragon World story mode (different for each character), plethora of unlockable secrets and a high-speed, but surprisingly strategic, fighting engine, it was the pinnacle of the series.

As of yet, this is only confirmed for Europe, with no apparent word of a United States release, but it would seem silly not to bring it over, no?
