2016’s favorite Netflix obsession, Stranger Things , was already pretty darn retro. This ode to 1980s kid-friendly adventure flicks went to great lengths to use authentic props and teach its modern kid actors how to properly use archaic devices like walkie-talkies and rotary phones. Now Youtubers 8 Bit Cinema have taken things a step further, re-imagining the show as an old-school adventure game in a gloriously nostalgic video.
My favorite visual from the video is the house strung completely up with 8-bit Christmas lights. Of course, now we all want this to be an actual adventure game we can play. Hey Netflix, maybe you can contract Telltale to make the Stranger Things Side Stories series. As long as it has 1980s-appropriate graphics, we’ll all eat it up.
In the meantime, we can all enjoy 8 Bit Cinema’s lovely nod to both the series and retro gaming. It’s full of spoilers, of course, so get yourself over to Netflix and watch the show first! It’s really good.
