Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers Cheats & Cheat Codes for NES

Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers is a 1990 platformer developed and published by Capcom. The game is based on the animated TV series of the same name, coming out exclusively on the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was later part of 2017’s The Disney Afternoon Collection, which would be released on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.

Due in part to the animated show’s popularity, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers was a huge success for Capcom. It sold around 1.2 million copies worldwide because of positive critical reception, leaving players in for a real treat with this title.

The gameplay of Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers is primarily a side-scrolling platformer, playable in both single-player and cooperative modes. You take control of the titular Chip and Dale, while moving through short levels filled with enemies and bosses. Some of these levels have an element of verticality to their design, also requiring you to move up and down to progress fully. Scattered throughout these levels are items such as acorns, boxes, and barrels, which can be picked up and thrown by Chip and Dale. You are given three hits per life on each level, after which you’ll die. Overall, it’s a fairly standard platformer for the era.

Crucially, there are several power-ups you can access in each level, in the form of the other Rescue Rangers. For example, if you can find Zipper the fly, he’ll give you invincibility for a limited time. These add a fresh element to the gameplay, especially if you don’t use them often.

To have the most fun with Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, we’d recommend playing in co-op. The game was clearly designed for two players, and is just missing something playing solo.

As the game is based on the TV series of the same name, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers plays out like an episode of the show. All of the Rescue Rangers are here, with Monterey Jack, Gadget, and Zipper appearing to support the main cast of Chip and Dale.

We’ve got the lowdown on everyone you need to be aware of before playing Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers:

  • Chip: One half of the famous duo, Chip is used as Player 1 throughout Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers. Chip is the smarter of the duo, and is generally seen as the overall brains of the operation.
  • Dale: In-game, Player 2 plays as Dale throughout. He’s shown as the more dim-witted of the duo, and isn’t much of a schemer.
  • Zipper: Zipper the fly hides throughout levels, but if you can find him, he’ll grant you invincibility for a limited time.
  • Gadget: Despite being captured by Fat Cat, Gadget can still help Chip and Dale by giving them tips on how to proceed on every level.
  • Monterey Jack: Throughout the game, Monterey Jack appears sporadically to break down barricades so that Chip and Dale can progress further.
  • Fat Cat: Fat Cat is the main villain of Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers. He has kidnapped Gadget, but the other Rescue Rangers will team up to save her from captivity.

Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers Titles in the Series

The Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers series is very much of its time. The show began in 1989, with three seasons airing since, with its final one coming just a year later in 1990. As a result, most of the video games in the series come from that era, too. We eventually got one mobile release in 2010, attempting to capitalize on the growing popularity of mobile gaming at the time. However, with the general lack of media, it’s been quite a few decades for Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers.

A new animated movie was eventually released in 2022, giving audiences their first revisit to the characters in a long time. The film went straight to streaming, although it was a critical success. Will that be enough to see Chip and Dale eventually return to the video game medium? It’s unlikely. We won’t stop hoping, though.

  • Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers (1990)
  • Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers: The Adventures in Numnul’s Castle (1990)
  • Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers 2 (1993)
  • Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers (2010)

If you’re having a blast from the past revisiting Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, you’re in luck. We’ve got a ton of cheat codes that you can use to modify just about every aspect of the game. You can make it easier, you can make it harder – there’s no end to what you can do with these cheat codes.

There is a catch, though. All of these cheats don’t come as part of the base game, so they require the use of a Game Genie cartridge. As a result, this is only really an issue if you play the game on an original NES, which most won’t. However, if you’re playing on an NES emulator, most support Game Genie codes natively, so you’ll be able to enter them as normal.

With the technical stuff out of the way, here are all the Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers cheat codes.

Do Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers Cheats Work on The Disney Afternoon Collection Version?

No. All of the above cheats can only be used on the original NES version of the game, or at least an emulated version. This is because they’re Game Genie cheats, rather than included in the base game. The Disney Afternoon Collection is totally separate, bringing Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers into a wider collection. Sadly, there are no cheats for this version of the game.

Are There Any Base Game Cheats For Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers?

No. As mentioned, the only cheats for the game are ones that can be used through Game Genies cartridges.

How Do I Use Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers Cheats?

If you’re playing the game on an NES emulator, it’s pretty simple. While the process will slightly differ between emulators, most have a section dedicated to adding cheat codes. Find that in your settings, and you should be able to enter the cheat codes above.

As these codes are specifically for Game Genie, there may be a setting to specify that these are what you’re entering. If you can see that setting in your emulator, ensure that you specify, because otherwise, the cheats won’t work.
