Digital Downloads Help Keep SEGA Afloat

Digital Downloads Help Keep SEGA Afloat

If you love market figures, then this is surely an exciting time of year for your weird self. SEGA is the latest company to release its financials for the 6-month period that ended in September. Surprisingly, they’re actually doing pretty ok, despite some disappointing game sales. They attribute their fiscal well being to the popularity of digital downloads.

The company recently released Phantasy Star Online 2, Puyopuyo Quest, and Chain Chronicle. SEGA described the sales of these games as “robust” and “growth drivers.” This is contrary to their digital downloads from the earliest months of the year, which didn’t do as well as they had hoped.

Overall, net sales for Sega have decreased by 2.5 percent, totaling $1.28 billion. They have now adjusted their forecasts for the end of the year and expect to make an overall profit of $157.6 million.
