Don’t Expect a Cheaper 360/PS3 Says EA

Don’t Expect a Cheaper 360/PS3 Says EA

With the launch of the next-gen systems officially upon us, we’ve finally seen the powerhouses of the PS3 and the 360 (who kept us so entertained for almost a decade) take a back seat to their bigger and badder counterparts. Unfortunately, according to EA, this won’t amount to savings in your wallet for a while.

During the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference, Blake Jorgensen (who is Chief Financial Officer at EA) gave us the low-down on how the next-gen won’t affect the other consoles bottom line just yet. “At some point Microsoft and Sony will most likely bring those prices down, which could expand the marketplace for old-generation software. … I’m guessing it’s probably late in the year or maybe even after next Christmas. I don’t know; they’ve not told us what their plans are but it’s probably not any time real soon.” He says.

So if you were hoping for a huge drop in the price tag of either system (much like the Nintendo did with the Wii after the launch of the Wii U), you might be in for a wait. Coincidentally, this news also comes after rumors that the cost of the Xbox One might drop in the US, after a bundle was marketed at $50 below retail in the UK.

However, this was simply a promotion and not a sign of things to come. We’ll bring you more news on any upcoming price cuts, as its breaks.
