Dota 2 Will Be Free To Play

None

How do you make money off of a game that was initially a free mod? Valve knows how! They certainly managed to please the community with Counter-Strike and its many iterations, and now they will be doing the same with Dota 2.

However, unlike Counter-Strike, Dota 2 will be free-to-play, earning revenue via micro-transactions in the game’s store. However, hero selection will not be restricted by real-world money. Instead, all of the game’s heroes will be available free of charge from the get-go.

“We believe restricting player access to heroes could be destructive to game design, so it’s something we plan to avoid,” said Valve on an official blog post. “Dota 2 will not be a pay-to-win game. All the items in the store are cosmetic, and don’t affect gameplay.”

Something tells us we should be expecting a plethora of hats.
