Dragon’s Lair Movie Kickstarter Doesn’t Guarantee a Movie

Dragon’s Lair Movie Kickstarter Doesn’t Guarantee a Movie

Dragon’s Lair was a first for many reasons. It was one of the earliest adventure games, pioneered quick time events, was one of the few great laserdisc games, and featured amazing visuals from Don Bluth. It’s appeared repeatedly in arcades and on consoles, handhelds, and PCs between 1983 and 2013. Now, Don Bluth and frequent collaborator Gary Goldman want to bring it to the big screen with a Kickstarter to support a movie.

Bluth and Goldman want $550,000 for a Dragon’s Lair movie by November 25. Last night, it had passed the $44,000 mark. However, there’s something important to note about this project. The funds people contribute won’t actually help make a movie. Instead, they’ll be put toward creating a 10 minute video they can use to pitch the project to studios and investors. There’s no guarantee on any return on this investiment, beyond Kickstarter rewards.

If you love Dragon’s Lair, contributing to funding is something to consider. Just remember that you’re guaranteed no finished project with this endeavor when you go in, otherwise you may find yourself disappointed.
