Would You Kickstart Apocalypse Now?

Would You Kickstart Apocalypse Now?

Apocalypse Now is a cinematic masterpiece. Francis Ford Coppola’s movie offered an incredible take on Dante’s Inferno . And now, people want to make it into a game. A Kickstarter has launched to bring it to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. That is, if it raises $900,000 by February 24. A $35 contribution guarantees you a copy of the game in hopefully 2020.

Francis Ford Coppola’s American Zoetrope and Erebus are going to be working on Apocalypse Now. It will be a psychological horror game with adventure elements. People will experience the Vietnam War in a new way as they follow Captain Benjamin Willard and try to assassinate Colonel Walter E. Kurtz. It almost sounds like it could be a Heavy Rain sort of game, since you’ll react to the situations Willard deals with. This, in turn, will alter the ending. His actions and postures will determine how things go, rather than just dialogue.

Honestly? I don’t think this Apocalypse Now game is going to happen. I don’t think it will get the Kickstarter funds. I don’t even think it’s a good idea for a game. The movie is such a good, self contained product as it is. But what do I know? Maybe it’ll succeed and be 2020’s game of the year!
