Channing Tatum is X-Men’s New Gambit

Channing Tatum is X-Men’s New Gambit

In what could be a nice way to finally get your wife or girlfriend to go see a comic book movie with you, Channing Tatum has officially been confirmed as Remy Lebeau (codename: Gambit).

Producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed the news, after Tatum had hinted in the media recently that’d he’d been in talks to play the role. Donner touted the casting choice, comparing Gambit’s personality to that of the currently hot (no I don’t mean hot in that way) actor. “Well you know he’s a rogue, Channing. He’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau, and he can handle the action, we all know that. He’s got a really good heart.” He says.

We were first introduced to the concept of Gambit on film during a scene in X-Men United . When Mystique is searching for Magneto’s location on Striker’s computer, you can clearly see Gambit’s name listed among the other mutants. His actual on screen appearance in the Wolverine spin-off failed to impress, so there’s no doubt Singer is hoping he can hit the reset button with this latest casting choice for X-Men Apocalypse . Donner on the other hand seems to have complete confidence, as the producer and actor have a history together. “I did a movie with him. So I think he’ll be great, he’ll be great for Gambit, and he’s a southerner too, he’s not from New Orleans but he is a southerner and he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans.” Donner assures.

This news begs the question, what will be the real Apocalypse of this film? The epic new villain…or two hours of Tatum trying to pull off a Cajun accent? Place your bets people!
