Inafune May Be Developing For The Vita

None

Keiji Inafune, formerly of Capcom and now CEO of the new development studio Comcept, hinted that he may be working on a new title for the PlayStation Vita at GDC yesterday.

During a presentation called “The Future of the Japanese Gaming,” Inafune said that Japanese developers need to create new brands on new hardware in order to find success. Essentially, he reiterated the same thing he said when he left Capcom. Companies are stagnating far too much, and if developers to not take steps to innovate, gaming will simply die a slow death. As an example, he showed that his company is working with mobile phones, the 3DS, and the Vita.

You may remember that Inafune left Capcom to develop more “experimental” games for handheld and mobile platforms. Until now, he has only announced titles for mobile phones and the 3DS, so the Vita announcement came as a big surprise. Inafune asked the audience to “please forget” what he said about the Vita in a show of humorous backpedaling, but it was pretty obvious he dropped this teaser on purpose. The only question now: What sort of game will Inafune make?
