Yesterday was the launch date for the now-independent IO Interactive’s Game of the Year Edition for Hitman , the popular episodic version of the long-running, um, serious about being a hitman. Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, released a blog post celebrating both the game’s launch as well as the company’s newfound independence, a subject that has been a bit quiet as IO focused on rolling out the final bits of Hitman content. But that’s not all.
The blog post has the usual happiness and fluff that comes with a positive announcement, with the usual thanking of the fans, celebrating the hard work of the team, and just generally basking in the excitement of Hitman Season One. And it’s a deserved basking, quite frankly. For all the turmoil this game obviously went through, it’s good to see some positivity coming out of it.
At the end, Abrak turns to the future. He says, “One last thing about our next Hitman game…” The game is in production, and IO suggests it will have new stuff to play with, including some “franchise firsts.” There’s not much else, although IO does plan to start talking about it in more official capacity in 2018.
