John Smedley Ready To Strike Back Against Hackers and Harassers

John Smedley, former boss of Sony Online Entertainment, is going to war with hacking group Lizard Squad. You may remember that Lizard Squad called in a fake bomb threat which grounded a plane that Smedley was on in September of 2014. Now, hacker Julies “Zeekill” Kivimaki is being charged for many of Lizard Squad’s actions. However, he has only been given a two year suspended sentence and no prison time for more than 50,000 charges. This is not enough for Smedley.

Smedley says he will be taking more direct legal action, posting on Twitter “I got to talk to this dirtbag once when he called and pretended to be someone else. I also got to listen to the entire conversation between him and American Airlines the day he called in the bomb threat. His parents need to be held accountable for his actions in addition to his going to jail. So I’m coming for you Julius.”

Many people on Twitter have taunted Smedley, saying he won’t do anything, calling his threats empty, and saying he is just whining due to being trolled. Even Lizard Squad themselves posted MC Hammer’s “Can’t Touch This” in response to Smedley’s threats. Smedley in turn responded “I’m 46. I’ve had my identity stolen, tax returns filed, I’ve been swatted and many other things. So yeah, I’m pissed.”

Personally, I hope to see Smedley succeed. Cybercrime should not be tolerated, especially not crime that puts peoples lives at risk, like a fake bomb threat.
