Konami Suing Harmonix et al Over Rock Band Patent Infringement

None

On Wednesday, Konami announced they are suing Harmonix, MTV Networks, and Viacom, because their game, Rock Band, infringes on three of the company’s patents for instrument-based video games.

Wired reports that “the patents [outlined in the suit] fully describe and contain several images of games like Guitar Freaks, Drummania, and Pop’n Music,” that seem to back up the game maker’s claims. The three patents in question are 6,390,923, 6,425,822, and 6,645,067.

Harmonix has officially responded to the suit stating, “”Konami’s actions are extremely surprising. Unfortunately, successful products such as Rock Band can often become targets for baseless litigation. We have substantial defenses to this claim and intend to vigorously defend it.”
