Mass Effect: Andromeda Will Be a Fresh Start

Mass Effect: Andromeda Will Be a Fresh Start

We may have only gotten a tantalizing glimpse of Mass Effect: Andromeda at E3, but we now know a few more things about the highly-anticipated game. BioWare’s Aaryn Flynn confirmed that the player’s final choice in Mass Effect 3 will not be reflected in Andromeda . This is for several reasons – Andromeda takes place far from the Milky Way (so the galaxy-shaking choice you made doesn’t really have repurcussions for the area), and BioWare wants to give the series a fresh start. Plus, this way you can consider your own ending “canon,” as there won’t be an official canon ending to the trilogy. Although it wasn’t stated, the controversial nature of Mass Effect 3 ‘s ending may have also influenced this choice.

This doesn’t mean that all connection to the original Mass Effect series is lost. Some of the Milky Way races you know and love will be represented among your crew, and there are likely to be references to the first trilogy sprinkled throughout the game. However, you’re far from home, and the races you’ll be meeting should be almost entirely new.

EA will be focusing on its big fall releases like Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2 for the near future. Thus, we’ve been told not to expect any new information about Mass Effect: Andromeda until November. I’m sure there will be plenty of interstellar hype leading up to the game’s spring launch. In the meantime, BioWare says, “Hello, my name is _______ Ryder.”  What  first name will you give your Ryder?
