Media Molecule Cites The PSN Outage As Beneficial

Media Molecule Cites The PSN Outage As Beneficial

None

At Develop, a United Kingdom-based games industry conference, Media Molecule’s creative director, Mark Healey, expressed some surprising sentiments about the PlayStation Network outage. After the obvious drop to zero members during the outage, LittleBigPlanet’s online community leapt to numbers well above its pre-outage heights.

LittleBigPlanet is a wonderful game, to be sure, but did time away from its online community really generate such an ardent desire in fans that they felt compelled to leap to its online upon the network’s return? Healey instead indicates that Sony’s LBP giveaway as a welcome back olive branch spurred numbers. He feels that a lot of those who play around with the construction set saw the impending influx of new players as a potential way to really get their names out there by unleashing new maps on the community as soon as the network had returned.

Media Molecule’s story certainly fits the age-old adage, “every cloud has a silver lining.”
