Microsoft Blames Activision for Infinite Warfare’s PC Barriers

Microsoft Blames Activision for Infinite Warfare’s PC Barriers

People who went with the PC version of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare have probably wondered why they don’t seem to be able to play the game with all their friends. The problem? Copies of the game purchased on Steam and the Windows 10 Store aren’t cross-play compatible. That means people who bought the game on different storefronts can’t play together. And Microsoft’s placing the blame on Activision.

This incompatibility first appeared on Activision’s support page . It flat out said the Windows 10 Store versions of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered can’t be played with people on other PC platforms. They only work with other Windows 10 Store copies of the game. A Microsoft spokesperson then told Windows Central , “We support cross-play between devices and platforms for partners who want to enable it.” Another source told the site that the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare UWP toolset doesn’t prevent cross-play functionality.

This is such a shame. You’d think we could be guaranteed Windows PC games would be compatible with each other, especially when you’re talking about two copies of the same game, both of which work on the Windows 10 operating system, but were simply bought in different places. What’s the reasoning behind this? It doesn’t make any sense.
