Microsoft VP Says Halo Lost Its Way

None

In an interview with OXM UK, Microsoft Game Studios VP Phil Spencer discussed the importance of Master Chief to the Halo fiction and how the series lost its way without him in its games. Master Chief wasn’t in the last two installments, Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach. In case you don’t know, he’s that faceless soldier who utters no more than a dozen lines throughout the entire Halo trilogy. But still, fans love him and apparently, Halo just isn’t the same without him.

Regarding Halo 4’s big reveal at E3 last month, Spencer went on to say “We kind of lost our way a little bit, I’ll say. And that’s why I wanted to make sure that at the unveiling of Halo 4, you knew you were playing Master Chief, that John was back. Because Master Chief is the John Wayne character of that universe, and that’s who you want to play.”

To all the Halo fans who have been missing their John Wayne, he’ll again take center stage in Halo 4, which will mark the beginning of a brand new trilogy. If that’s just not enough to satiate your appetite for all things Master Chief, you can get another dose of the silent Spartan in the upcoming Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary that will give the original Halo a massive graphical overhaul.
